Know your options before you pay anyone
Most people getting rid of a sofa or a fridge start by asking what a hauler charges. That is the second question. The first is whether you need one at all, because the answer is often no, and nobody whose income depends on the removal has any reason to tell you.
What actually happens
- You tell us the postal code and the itemNothing else. No name, no phone number, no address. We are not collecting a lead at this point and there is nothing to unsubscribe from.
- We show the free and cheap routes firstIf your council collects it, a retailer has to take it back, or a charity will come for it, that appears above any paid option, with a link to the source and the date we last checked it.
- You decide whether you still want a haulerPlenty of people stop here, and that is the product working. If you do want quotes, you ask for them.
- At most three companies see your requestThey quote from prices they published in advance, so the number you are given is built from a list you can look at rather than invented for you.
- You tell us what you actually paidThat is the only way anyone can know whether a company's quotes hold. It is what the price reliability figure on each company is built from.
Why we lead with the option that earns us nothing
A comparison site that only ever shows paid options is an advertising channel wearing a different hat. The useful thing we can do is tell you when the answer is a municipal collection you already pay for through your taxes, or a retailer legally obliged to take the old one when they deliver the new one.
That costs us the job. It is also the only reason to come here rather than to a search results page full of ads.
Every fact has a source and a date
Municipal rules change and stale rules are worse than none, because they send somebody to a depot that closed. So each one carries the page we read it on and the day a person last checked it, and when that check expires the fact stops displaying rather than sitting there quietly going wrong.
Where we have not checked your area yet, we say so instead of guessing.
What we will not do
We do not sell your request to whoever pays most, we do not let a company buy a higher position, and we do not publish a rule nobody has read the source for. There is no arrangement that would let any of those happen quietly.
Questions people ask before they start
Do I have to give my phone number to see prices?
No. A postal code and the item are enough to see what your options are, including the free ones. You only give contact details if you decide you want quotes.
Will I get called by five companies?
No. A request goes to at most three, and that limit is enforced by the database rather than the page, so it holds even if something else goes wrong.
Does it cost anything?
Nothing, ever, for the person getting rid of something. Haulers pay a flat monthly fee for an area.
