Review policy

Only somebody whose job is recorded as completed, against a real quote request that went through this site. The review form lives inside your quote room, the page you reach from the link we sent when your quotes arrived, so there is no public form and nothing to find by searching. The software will not create a review unless a job outcome exists for that request and it is marked completed, and it allows one review per job. That is what lets us label a review verified without it being marketing language.

• Which of the companies you asked did the job.
• Whether the job happened. If it did not, no review is created.
• What you actually paid, and if it differed from the quote, why. This is stored as a job outcome, not as part of the review, and it feeds the price reliability figure described below.
• A rating from 1 to 5.
• Anything you would tell someone else, up to 2,000 characters. Optional.
• Your name, up to 80 characters, only if you want it shown. Optional.

A review is published when it is submitted. It is not held for approval first, and the verified label is set by the code from the job record, never from anything typed in a form.

No discount, no entry into anything, no reward for a positive review, and no asking only the customers we expect to be happy. The form says so above the send button. The same form is offered to every customer whose quotes were sent, whichever company they chose and however it went.

A review is only hidden when it is one of these, and the reason is recorded either way:

• It identifies a person, contains abuse, or contains a threat.
• It describes a job that did not happen, which we can check against the outcome record.
• It was written by somebody with an undisclosed interest in the company.
• A court or regulator requires it.

A company objecting is not on that list, and the software enforces it: a moderation action must carry a written reason, and an attempt to hide a review with a reason amounting to “the provider objected”, “the provider complained” or “the provider asked” is rejected outright. Hiding a review does not delete it. It is unpublished, the action, the reason and who took it are written to a moderation record, and it can be restored the same way. Nothing is deleted quietly.

A listed company can dispute a review and say why. The moderation record has a place for a dispute and for its resolution, so the outcome is logged against the review either way. If the review stands, it stands with the dispute noted. If it comes down, the reason is on the record. There is not yet a button for this in the company portal; until there is, an operator logs the dispute when a company raises it with us, and the same rules above apply.

The ranking function that orders companies when you ask for quotes is built to take the average rating over verified, published reviews, weighted by how many there are. One five star review does not outrank a long record: with little evidence the average is pulled toward the middle, which is also what stops a single planted review moving a company up. Ratings from hidden reviews are not counted. At the moment the quote flow passes no rating into that function, so reviews are collected and kept under the rules on this page but do not yet move a company’s position; when they are wired in, it will be under those rules and this page will say so. Separately from ratings, we ask what was quoted and what was actually paid. A company’s price reliability figure is the share of completed jobs where the final price was no more than 5 per cent over the quote. It comes from that arithmetic, not from opinion, it is never typed in by a company or an operator, and it only appears once at least five completed jobs have been reported, because below that one awkward job is not a pattern. A review is attached to the job, not to your account. If you delete your data from the your data page, your quote request and its job outcome are removed; a review you wrote is kept as part of the company’s public record, unlinked from the deleted job, with only the name you chose to show. If you want a review taken down as well, say so in the same request.
